Break it down to small parts. Rather than try to work on the whole song at one go, its best to break it down into small parts. A major problem most people experience is trying to create great beats at one go. This results in trying to bring together many different ideas which just limit creativity. Rather than try to bring together many different sounds together, break the sound into small parts. Concentrate on a few of these sounds at a time and eventually, you will get your perfect beat.

Cut the Sounds - You can try to keep adding new and unique sounds, but it is much better to concentrate on just a few at a time. The more synthesizers you use, the more confusing the beat will get.

Use a few themes. Some of the greatest beats have been created using sounds from different genres of music. This however doesn't mean that more themes in one beat is better. Focus on using just a few themes per beat to avoid creating confusion in your sound.

Use few tracks. When selecting tracks, focus on those that make sense to you. More tracks do not necessarily mean that you will get the perfect beat. The number of beats will enable you get the perfect sound.
