How To Teach Exciting Piano Lessons For All Ages

By Lelia Hall

Becoming a great teacher is not a simple tasks. You have to teach students with great patience. This is even more true when you are teaching them how to play musical instruments. It is also required of you to be able to teach no matter what age the students have. Teaching exciting piano lessons will become your responsibility.

If you wish to succeed in this teaching field, then you better make use of some tips relevant to what you are about to do. There should be many tips you can note for that. Here are a few of those tips you should remember in teaching students to play the music instrument.

First, you should avoid asking questions that you really never want answers to. When you ask the students what they want to do, you are giving them the option of backing out on something that could probably help them learn to play. If you do not want that to happen, then just turn that question into a statement.

The students should have the time to think when you are asking some questions. You should give them a reasonable amount of time to process your question and compose their response. Do not just bulldoze your way to the end of the lesson by answering these question you yourself asked. Especially if your students are young children, give them enough time to think.

When teaching, it is only a given for you to assign them some activities and tasks. These activities and tasks should be something that they can finish on their own. When they finish these activities and tasks, they will have more confidence in themselves. They can see that they are also progressing in every session.

You should give the students concise instructions on what they should do. To make the students listen to you really well, then you have to speak only a few choice words at a time. When you are giving instructions, it is better to speak a few words of instructions to give the children the time to process them and think.

Becoming a motivator is your main priority. This is a job that requires you to be able to motivate the students learning under you. Motivating them should encourage them to learn more about music. If you are a good motivator, then you can easily give the students the motivation that they need to play their instrument.

The students should not always be sitting when instructing them. Try to break up these sitting activities and encourage them to move around. It should be easier to retain their concentration if you allow them to move. You cannot expect students, especially young children, to stay focused for the entire session if they just sit all the time.

Try to model curiosity for the students. Give them the sense that every session is a session for experiments. When there is a sense of that in your sessions, you can get them to pay attention to what you are trying to get them to learn. It should be effective in nurturing the love and attention students have to learning.
