Keeping Yourself Protected Whenever Taking Photos At Night

By Sue T Wouod

I wasn't really confident which cities considered stun guns legal in Illinois therefore I asked my cousin for assistance. She was taking some sort of training to become a police officer here within Springfield and it turned out there were numerous things I had to know.

Stun guns are legal. However, I need to have a valid Firearm Owner's Identification card or FOID before any person will sell me a stun weapon. For an American resident over 21 years of age and without having a criminal background, it should not be a problem.

Just last December, the U.S. Court of Appeals inside Chicago ruled for the citizens' right to have firearms for self-defense outside the house, and it ought to apply to stun devices too.

This is great news because I have just been asked to do a coffee table book along with a writer and we are going all over the state in order to take pictures of some of the popular as well as lesser-known destinations.

What I worry most is night photography. I recall on one occasion I was taking a photograph inside Detroit. This was around 1 a.m. and I hadn't noticed some guy coming up behind me until I felt something pointy behind my neck.

I broke out in cold sweat. He took my Canon EOS Mark II, my cell phone, cash, everything. If only I had something with me back then, just like a stun device or a Taser or even pepper spray, then I could have had a fighting chance of immobilizing the man and heading straight for the police station.

That isn't going to happen once again for this assignment. No freaking way. At this time, my partner and I are planning for the trip. This could take a year, in order that we can cover all 4 seasons within the state.

I figured we would check out the "safer" areas initially and move on to the not-so-safe locations after I obtain my FOID as well as a stun device. Some citizens still don't reckon stun weapons legal in Illinois but we know better exactly how necessary one is.
