Say the name Schertler and almost any musician's ears will perk up, from the professional musician doing gigs every day to the starry eyed dreamer sitting in their room air-guitaring. The company was started with a desire for collaboration between two musical greats Stephan Schertler and famed Swiss guitar designer and builder Claudio Pagelli. Their plan was to create and market smaller electric and acoustic guitars.
They would come with standard equipped high quality pickups and hardware, with limited upgrades available. The bodies themselves were to be constructed from the finest hardwoods and spruces for sound tone and quality. The shapes were planned to be unique and elegant to look at. In the time they have been in business they have achieved and surpassed all these expectations and more to create a group of unique instruments that would make any musician proud to own.
They have 4 distinct guitars to satisfy everyone's needs to build a unique instrument with. Almost every instrument can be custom built by deciding on various options like hardware and finishes. The 4 distinct models are the CP, the SP, the SB and the SM.
The model CP plays nylon string and is at home around a campfire with friends as much as it is on a stage in front of hundreds of people. The moon cut top is crafted with solid Swiss spruce for great tone and warmth. Both sides and back a solid Indian rosewood which adds depth and warmth to its sound. The electronic pickups are also standard with side mounted controls.
The model SB is a steel string. It also has the alpine Swiss spruce top supplying better tone and depth. Both the backs and side are fashioned from a newer hard-wood called Bubinga. This hard-wood enhances the tone and sustain making them sharper. The veritable electronic controls are located on-board and do a fine job mixing the sound.
The model SM is a steel string instrument as well. It uses the same spruce top to help enhance sound quality and the depth. Both back and the sides are hand-crafted from choice heart cut mahogany. This gives the instrument a much richer thus fuller sound than most of its stringed counterparts. It also uses the same electronics package and pickups other models share.
The SP is another steel string model in their lineup. It too has the Swiss alpine spruce top for a richer sound quality. The back and sides are old growth Indian rosewood. Perfect for that classical, folk or flamenco music. The on board electronics offer a wide range of controls and are positioned for maximum usability.
One of the biggest selling points is the virtually limitless combinations that are possible using the on board pre-amp and mixer. While it will not replace a several thousand dollar board, it does do a good job. Every control does what it is suppose to do.
