Neil Diamond Tribute Bands Are Awesome

By Katrina Wheeler

It is not a shock that Neil Diamond tribute bands are very popular. It is most likely because the singer has a large fan base. Neil Diamond is perhaps one of the most recognized singers all the way from the sixties to the new millennium.

His songs lay in the category of adult contemporary rock. He began his career way back in the sixties and today is still going strong. He has been awarded a position in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The only other musicians to beat him in the billboard list for adult contemporary music are the famous Elton John and Barbara Streisand. His most noted songs are If You Know What I Mean, Song Sung Blues and I've Been This Way Before.

What this type of band does is play homage to a musician. It is not required that the way they play is a replication. This is because a tribute is a homage although many people especially other musicians might see it as a copycat move.

Neil Diamond's music can be considered among the more easy to play since most of the songs use only a guitar a voice. The band then can have only one member. His sound is relatively simple sixties' pop with a mellow guitar. Some of his songs use more instruments which can require more members and there is his voice which is most important and very melodious.

A Neil Diamond tribute band does not have to play exactly like the artist. They are free to take on interpretations of the music. They may even try to enhance or undermine certain aspects. For instance a band may choose to make his music a bit edgier by adding a rougher voice or heavier bass.

The tribute band however must know each and every song by the original artist. This is because they are probably going to play for people who are die hard fans and who are more incline to listening to less mainstream numbers. In addition these fans might not take a liking to an interpretation of the music. This is up to the musician to decipher and play accordingly.

It is a smart and fun way to make extra money. People who love to play music but who do not have the creative inclination to make their own might find this especially enjoyable. Also bands that are trying to fund their own artistic vision may do tributes.

Of course bands that play homage to another's music should not expect to play stadium or make nearly as much as the original artist. There are other venues such as bar or restaurants who would be glad to hire them. There is also the opportunity of playing background to live karaoke but the band must know a large array of music to do this. A Neil Diamond tribute bands might be especially easy to get hired since his music is widely known but this can also be a problem. His popularity has surely sprung up many tribute bands. It is best to know how to replicate his songs exactly as well as being able to do imaginative takes.
