Singapore Passport Photo Requirements

By Larry Bent

Every country requires strict adherence to the guidelines they set for official government-issued records, including the photos submitted with the papers. This is also true in Singapore. The Southeast Asian nation requires passport applicants to adhere to the photo standards set by the Singapore Passport Agency. Any minor deviation from the norm can result to the rejection of the application. So if you are applying for a Singapore passport, avoid rejection by following the photo instructions exactly, or have a professional photographer take your photo since they know how to take a Singapore passport photo.

The standard picture size for a Singaporean passport is the same as the size used in some Asian nations, as well as in Italy, Australia, and Britain, which is 3.5cm x 4.5cm. It must be borderless in sharp and clear matte or semi-matte texture. You would need to present two copies to the Agency or submit a digital copy in JPEG format with 514 x 400 pixel in a CD. The file should not go over 60 KB.

When taking a passport photo, look directly into the camera and open your eyes wide. Don't conceal or alter facial features, like birthmarks, moles, or tattoos, if you have any. The picture should show the top of your shoulder and your whole head. Your head should be upright and your face placed at the centre, measuring 2.5 centimetres x 2.5 centimetres from the crown to the chin.

Remove your hat or any headgear in the photo, unless you wear them regularly for religious, racial, or cultural customs. And if you do, make sure that it doesn't hinder your face in any way. You can also wear eyeglasses if you ordinarily wear them, but its frame shouldn't obscure your eyes and its lens shouldn't capture glare from the flash. Sunglasses and other tinted lenses are not allowed. Take the photo against plain white backdrop, but if your hair colour or headwear is in the same colour, you can use a slightly grey backdrop.

passport photo singapore requirements, which are similar with the visa photo requirements, are very exacting. Any deviation from the standards given will be rejected. The Agency will even deny inferior photo prints so make sure your picture is clear and has no discolouration or stain on it. You can take your picture yourself using a digital camera, but to be sure that your photo follows all requirements, go to a professional photography service instead.
